A vegetable garden in every house

The village of La Balsa is located 44 kilometers from the municipal capital, at an altitude of 475 meters above sea level, which provides a semi-temperate subtropical climate, with an average temperature of 18 to 25 degrees Celsius. The inhabitants are characterized by their culture and language, with the Castilian and Mayan ethnicities being predominant, led by the community’s elders.

PEPE is already present in this community, reaching 70 children in three units, which are missionary fronts of the First Baptist Church of La Balsa.

The municipality, in partnership with churches, develops a Family Garden project, distributing resources for planting in the homes of PEPE children. The La Balsa Association, led by Pastor Pablo, manages the vegetable gardens. The support consists of the supply of seeds and the installation of a water well, managed by the Aguaguate Association.

Water is a fundamental aspect for human development and, especially, for the healthy growth of children. This essential resource comes from artisanal wells, streams or springs close to the region. However, on the initiative of the City Hall, a well was drilled, guaranteeing drinking water for children and their families, allowing them to take care of the vegetable gardens and maintain a healthy diet. Furthermore, when it rains, parents take the opportunity to fish in the river and bring food to their homes.

Pray for the 602 children served by PEPEs in Guatemala and the 24 missionary-educators, so that we can continue to grow and bring help to many boys and girls in all communities.

In Guatemala, we will continue working to accomplish the mission!
